Join us Wednesday, March 17th at 7PM for a special Saint Patrick's Day edition of Boston.com's Cocktail Club with host Jackson Cannon and his special guest Pat Sullivan. This week they'll be making cocktails with Irish Whiskey, catching up about the Boston restaurant and bar scene and sharing tips the pros use to make great drinks at home. They'll be mixing a traditional Hot Toddy and a modern riff of the Manhattan Cocktail known as The Dubliner. Everything you'll need is listed below with a link to purchase your Boston.com Cocktail Club Irish Whiskey kit through Gordon's Fine Wine and Spirits.
Jackson Cannon is Boston.com Cocktail Club’s host and bar director for Eastern Standard and The Hawthorne. The veteran craft cocktail leader opened Eastern Standard in 2005 as Bar Manager, quickly cementing the neighborhood brasserie’s reputation as one of the country’s best bars, known for its attention to properly crafted cocktails and unwavering hospitality in a high-volume environment. The iconic, expansive program offering more than 60 classic and new creations secured national attention and earned Cannon “Bartender of the Year” award from Nightclub & Bar magazine in 2011. Cannon introduced the next iteration of his vision when he opened The Hawthorne, an experience centered in his commitment to thoughtfully crafted cocktails, continued cocktail/spirits education, and curating exceptional moments for guests. The Hawthorne has received numerous local and national accolades, including a semifinalist award for James Beard Foundation’s “Outstanding Bar Program” in 2014 and 2015, and winning Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award for “Best Hotel Bar” in 2017. Cannon was a finalist for “Best Bar Mentor” at the 2013 and 2014 Spirited Awards and a 2014 Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Award nominee for “Mixologist/Brand Ambassador of the Year.”
The influence of Patrick Sullivan's long and storied career in Boston bars and restaurants cannot be overstated. In 1998 he purchased the notorious Windsor Tap in Cambridge and transformed it into the B-Side Lounge, an award winning gastro-pub meets classic cocktail haven mash-up that provided a crucial spark for the burgeoning Boston cocktail scene. After a 10 year run in that location that trained and produced a staggering amount of the city's craft bartenders, Pat expanded upon the work he'd done at the B-Side becoming Legal Seafoods Director of Bar Operations and overseeing the shift to more bar-centric culture for this iconic Boston restaurant group. He co-founded Brick & Mortar, Ltd. in 2012, a bar that immediately became known as a bartender's bar, where well crafted shots met old school vinyl in a devil may care atmosphere. 2021 finds him back in the hustle, opening a yet to be named place in a suburban neighborhood of Boston.
A native of Cork, Ireland (the “real capital” as locals refer to it), Gillian Murphy is the East Coast U.S. Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W. Gillian studied at the University College Cork where she fully immersed herself in the rich traditions of her home country, including taking all her classes in Gaelic, the traditional Irish language. It was during this time when she discovered Tullamore D.E.W. Irish whiskey and developed a passion for the cocktail and spirits industry.
Upon graduation, Gillian got the opportunity of a lifetime to join the Brand Ambassador trainee program with Tullamore D.E.W. in the U.S. She packed her bags and moved to South Florida to immerse herself in the world of Irish whiskey, and develop her skills as a local ambassador, driving brand awareness and sales across the state. A year and a half later, Gillian left the U.S. and moved to London to expand her sales career with William Grant in the Global Travel Retail department.
In 2018, Gillian moved back stateside to Chicago, where she currently resides full time as the Tullamore D.E.W. Ambassador. She is responsible for engaging directly with consumers, media and the trade, educating all about the exciting world of Tullamore D.E.W.
When she’s not working, you can find Gillian on the ski slopes or traveling in Northern Spain (she speaks Spanish and Basque from her time at the Universidad de Deusto, Bilbao).
